| | | APSA17-300 | | Plenary Address: “What About Curiosity?” Speakers: Chair: Lee Jaffe, Ph.D., President-Elect (La Jolla, CA)
Introducer: Ira Brenner, M.D. (Bala Cynwyd, PA)
Speaker: Salman Akhtar, M.D. (Ardmore, PA)
This presentation will trace the origin of human curiosity to the interplay between hard-wired evolutionary imperatives and epigenetically unfolding psychosexual drives and relational scenarios of formative years. It will also address the forms and expressions of curiosity that are normative (e.g. developmental), and ubiquitous (e.g. existential), as well as those which are morbid in either quantitative (e.g. too much, too little), or qualitative (e.g. false, transgressive, prurient) sense. The intricate relationship between curiosity and creativity will also be discussed. Finally, the implications of such formations to the analytic situation (from both sides of the couch, and in between) shall be elucidated. | | MP3 | | $15.00 | | $15.00 | |
